Grayson County VINELink Coverage
Virginia Jail VINE is the correct notification route for local and regional jail custody, including NRVRJ. It lets a user search a specific person and register for notices tied to the contributing jail record. The system can report events such as release, transfer, escape, death, and return, although the events offered depend on the source agency. Read the agency name with the status because VINELink relays data supplied by participating custodians.
State-prison notification is separate. A person serving a VADOC sentence, including at River North Correctional Center, may fall under VADOC Victim Services and NAAVI rather than general Jail VINE. A person awaiting a VADOC transfer while still housed at a jail may require Jail VINE registration during that stage, followed by a separate eligible VADOC registration. Registrations do not move automatically. Federal BOP and USMS custody are not covered by Virginia Jail VINE.
| Custody | Notification route | Key limit |
|---|---|---|
| NRVRJ or local jail | Virginia Jail VINE through VINELink | A release notice may also cover transfer |
| VADOC prison | VADOC Victim Services / NAAVI when eligible | Separate registration is required |
| Federal custody | BOP or USMS channels | Not covered by Virginia Jail VINE |
| Registry duty | Virginia Sex Offender Registry alerts | Only for people subject to registration |
Search a Grayson Inmate on VINELink
Begin at the official VINELink application. The person-result address is dynamic, so use the main service and select Virginia. Search for the intended person with the fields shown by the live interface. Match carefully. Similar names can appear, and an old record from a different agency is not proof of the current Grayson custody event.
- Select Virginia, then choose the custody or offender search presented by the application.
- Enter the person’s name or available identifier exactly as requested.
- Compare all displayed identifiers and the source agency before opening a record.
- Read status and facility together. Save the source and check time rather than copying a status alone.
- If the result says released or transferred, contact NRVRJ to learn which event occurred and whether another agency received the person.
If VINELink returns no match, search the NRVRJ lookup with “Include released inmates.” Try name and date of birth or a supported identifier such as the booking, permanent, state, county, FBI, or ICE number. The complete source-by-source method appears in the Grayson County released-inmate lookup.
Grayson VINELink Release Record Fields
Only fields displayed by the live VINELink record should be attributed to that person. The research did not establish a public retention period for released results, and dynamic screens can change. The safest record notes the person match, source agency, reported custody status, notification event, and the time the information was checked.
| Field | How to read it |
|---|---|
| Name or identifier | Helps distinguish the intended person from similar names |
| Source agency | Identifies the custodian that supplied the event |
| Custody status | Reports the contributing agency’s current event or state |
| Facility or location | May identify the holding or reporting agency |
| Event type | May indicate release, transfer, escape, death, or return |
| Alert time | Shows delivery timing, not necessarily the physical gate time |
A VINE timestamp and a jail release time can differ. Treat the alert time as the notification event. Ask the holding agency for the actual custody-transition time and disposition. A court order can explain the legal authority but does not rule out a detainer or later transfer.
Register for Grayson Release Alerts
Registration starts from the matching VINELink record. Depending on what the live service offers, a user can select telephone, text, email, or TTY and enter the destination details. Multiple phone or email destinations may be registered. Telephone registration uses a PIN. That PIN acknowledges an automated call and stops repeat calls for the event.
- Open the verified person record and choose the notification or registration option.
- Select the available delivery channel and enter the phone number, email address, or TTY details.
- Create the required PIN for telephone notices and store it securely.
- Complete the on-screen confirmation. Registration is not complete merely because a record was found.
- When a call arrives, enter the PIN to acknowledge it. If custody moves to a different system, register there as well when eligible.
The official Virginia brochure says unanswered telephone calls may leave a message and continue until the call is answered with the PIN or 24 hours passes. Calls may come from a Louisville, Kentucky area code. For a forgotten PIN, call 1-800-467-4943 and press 0. TTY support is available at 1-866-847-1298.
Note: Contact information belongs in the notification system, while release confirmation still comes from the agency that held the person.
Grayson Alerts Require Re-Registration
Virginia’s split notification structure is the distinctive local issue. Jail VINE covers the NRVRJ stage. VADOC Victim Services and NAAVI cover eligible state-corrections notification. The Virginia Sex Offender Registry has a separate role only for people with a statutory registration duty. None of these registrations automatically creates an account in another system.
The official Virginia VINE workflow FAQ explains why the systems must be kept apart. A sentence under 12 months remains in Jail VINE. For a longer state-responsible case, an eligible victim uses VADOC notification, even though someone physically waiting in a jail for transfer may still need Jail VINE during that interim period.
Call NRVRJ at 540-643-2000 and ask whether the person left NRVRJ custody, on what date and time, under what disposition, and whether a receiving agency appears. If VADOC received the person, use the statewide locator and the appropriate Victim Services route. This handoff prevents a jail event from being mistaken for release from every custody.
Grayson State-Prison Notification
VADOC describes advanced release notification as an anticipated date generally supplied about 30 days before release and updated if the date changes. Its use of “release date” means the person is no longer in VADOC custody. Eligibility limits apply to victim notification, so the public locator and records process remain distinct from NAAVI registration.
The VADOC notification page explains the state-prison route.
The state page confirms that a River North or other VADOC release uses a separate workflow from an NRVRJ Jail VINE alert.
VADOC Victim Services can be reached at 804-674-3243, toll-free at 800-560-4292, or victimservices@vadoc.virginia.gov. Published hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Ask about program eligibility and registration, not merely a person’s public locator result.
Confirm Grayson VINELink Results
VINELink is a notification and status tool, not the final release record. Data can lag, a dynamic result can disappear, and the service has no published released-result retention term in the reviewed material. A no-result does not prove ongoing custody or release. Search the source agency, then call or request its record.
For an NRVRJ event, use the released-inclusive jail lookup and ask for the booking and release record. For VADOC custody or supervision, use the VADOC locator and request inactive release documentation when a fully discharged person is absent. A federal sentence requires the BOP locator or USMS records route. Recent immigration detention has a separate ICE locator. Each system speaks only for its own custody.
The best confirmation pairs the holding agency’s finalized release or transfer record with the legal authority, such as a court order, bond record, or VADOC release document. If dates conflict, name each event. A notification time, court order date, transport time, and actual custody exit can all be different without any source being false.
Grayson Registry Alerts Differ
The Virginia Sex Offender Registry is not an inmate-release system. It applies only to people who have a statutory duty to register. Its public search and alert tools can show registry information for that limited population, but a current address or compliance entry does not prove when jail or prison custody ended. No result does not show that a person remains confined or lacks a record.
Use the registry only when that legal duty is relevant. Keep its alert separate from Jail VINE and NAAVI. A person may need no registry entry yet still appear in jail custody, VADOC supervision, or a court case. Another person may appear in the registry long after the custody event that led to registration. The source label should travel with every saved status so these distinct records are not blended.
Trace Grayson Custody Transitions
A Grayson arrest can pass through several agencies. The Sheriff may make the arrest, NRVRJ may hold the person in Dublin, a Grayson court may issue the order, and VADOC may later receive a state-responsible sentence. VINELink reports a contributing jail event within that chain. It cannot answer every later custody question.
After a “released or transferred” alert, ask NRVRJ four points: whether the person left NRVRJ custody, the recorded date and time, the release disposition, and any receiving agency named in the record. If the answer identifies VADOC, search statewide rather than only River North. Grayson convictions do not determine prison placement, and movement between VADOC institutions is still a transfer.
For a federal hold, check BOP and USMS channels. For an immigration hold, use ICE. The disappearance of a person from a jail result may reflect a downstream transfer, a changed search window, or a system issue. The release record’s disposition provides the bridge between systems. A call framed around that transition is more precise than asking only whether someone is “out.”
